What are the Microsoft Certifications
The Microsoft certification program is moving to role-based credentials for Azure or Microsoft 365 developers, administrators and solutions architects. Its certification offerings still include a variety of technology-oriented credentials, including Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert MCSA, Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert MSE, Microsoft Solutions Developer (MCSD Microsoft Office Specialist MOS).
This guide will not cover all role-based Microsoft certifications. However, it will provide a reference to these certifications. Microsoft is transitioning to role-based certifications but it maintains the following traditional technology-based Microsoft certification paths. After a candidate has earned MCSA certification, the next logical step in their journey is to earn MCSE certification. This is Microsoft’s expert-level certification. Microsoft’s role-based certifications are similar, and reflect increasing levels in knowledge and experience.
Although Microsoft MTA and MCSA certifications do not require prerequisites, all MCSE certifications do require them. Before sitting for the MCSE exam, candidates must have a prerequisite MCSA certificate.
What is the difference between MCSA & MCSE?
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), and Microsoft Certified Solution Expert (MCSE) are entry-level and expert-level certification tracks. They have different requirements and validate different skills. The two exams prepare learners for different IT career paths.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), an entry-level Microsoft certification, validates the knowledge and skills that an entry-level IT professional will acquire in their first year of working with Microsoft products. Microsoft recommends that test-takers possess at least one year of work experience in a Microsoft environment.
Although it is recommended, Microsoft does NOT require work experience to pass the exam. IT professionals must pass three exams to earn the MCSA.
